Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, expanding its foldable smartphone portfolio with three models built around productivity, entertainment and AI-powered everyday experiences.

Samsung Electronics introduced its latest generation of foldable smartphones at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, marking a significant expansion of the company’s Galaxy Z lineup.

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 series includes the premium Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the lighter Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Galaxy Z Flip8 continues Samsung’s compact clamshell design.

Rather than positioning the devices as variations of a single foldable concept, Samsung is targeting different types of users with each model.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Targets Productivity and Creators

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra sits at the top of Samsung’s new foldable portfolio and brings the company’s Ultra branding to its Fold series.

Samsung says the smartphone features an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display and a 6.5-inch cover display, both supporting adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz.

Despite its large folding screen, the device measures 4.1mm thick when unfolded and weighs 215 grams.

Performance is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, paired with up to 16GB of memory and as much as 1TB of internal storage.

The Fold8 Ultra features a 200MP primary camera, accompanied by a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Samsung has also introduced enhanced Nightography capabilities and support for 8K video using its APV codec.

A 5,000mAh battery powers the device, with support for 45W wired charging and 20W wireless charging.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Becomes Samsung’s Lightest Z Fold

Samsung is taking a somewhat different approach with the standard Galaxy Z Fold8.

At 201 grams, Samsung describes it as its lightest Galaxy Z Fold smartphone yet.

The device features a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. Samsung has adjusted the display ratios to make the cover screen suitable for everyday tasks while providing a larger canvas when the phone is unfolded.

The Fold8 uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy as the Ultra model and comes with a 4,800mAh battery.

Its rear camera system includes two 50MP sensors covering wide and ultra-wide photography.

Samsung has also introduced Flex Titanium, a new titanium-based display structure intended to support thinner foldable designs while improving durability and reducing the visibility of the display crease over time.

Galaxy Z Flip8 Focuses on AI and Portability

The Galaxy Z Flip8 takes Samsung’s foldable strategy in another direction.

Weighing 180 grams and measuring 6.1mm thick when unfolded, Samsung describes it as its slimmest and lightest Galaxy Z Flip yet.

The phone features a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display and a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow.

Samsung is increasingly turning that external display into a functional interface rather than simply a notification screen.

Features including Now Brief bring personalised information and suggested actions directly to the FlexWindow, while Gemini-powered functionality can be accessed for connected tasks and voice-based requests.

The Galaxy Z Flip8 is powered by Samsung's Exynos 2600 processor and comes with 12GB of memory and either 256GB or 512GB of storage.

Its camera setup includes a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera and 10MP selfie camera.

A 4,300mAh battery supports 25W wired and 15W wireless charging.

Galaxy AI Moves Deeper Into Foldables

Artificial intelligence is one of the central themes of Samsung's new foldable generation.

Galaxy AI has been adapted for the different form factors, particularly the larger displays available on the Fold models and the FlexWindow on the Flip8.

One of the new features is Now Nudge, which is designed to turn information from conversations into suggested actions, such as checking schedules, finding locations or saving places.

Samsung is also integrating Gemini Intelligence more deeply across the devices. According to the company, automation can work across more than 40 supported apps and services.

The foldable displays allow AI conversations and related information to appear side-by-side, while drag-and-drop functionality can be used to move images and files between apps and AI-powered workflows.

Samsung Adds More AI Privacy Controls

As Samsung expands agentic AI functionality, it is also introducing additional controls designed to show users what AI services are doing on their devices.

One UI 9 introduces an AI Assistant Activity dashboard, providing a central location where users can review AI-powered automations.

Samsung's existing Knox security architecture remains part of the system, alongside Knox Vault, Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection and the Personal Data Engine.

New Privacy Alerts are also designed to warn users about potentially unnecessary background permission requests.

Pre-Orders Begin in Select Markets

Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8 are available for pre-order in select markets beginning July 22.

All three devices will be offered in Graphite and Cream, alongside model-specific colours.

The Fold8 Ultra adds Violet Shadow, the Fold8 comes in Lavender and the Flip8 is available in Pink. Samsung exclusive colours include Green Shadow for the Fold8 Ultra, Pistachio for the Fold8 and Mint for the Flip8, although availability may vary by market.

Samsung is also bundling a six-month Google AI Pro trial with the new Galaxy Z series, including 5TB of cloud storage.

The new generation shows how Samsung's foldable strategy is becoming more segmented. Instead of treating foldables as one premium category, the company is increasingly differentiating them by use case, with the Fold8 Ultra aimed at power users and creators, the Fold8 positioned around everyday large-screen consumption, and the Flip8 focused on portability and quick AI-powered interactions.
