Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2, Watch9 Launched With AI-Powered Health Features
Updated: Sep 9
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9, introducing its latest generation of smartwatches with AI-powered health insights, upgraded processors, brighter displays and new fitness and wellness tracking features.

Samsung Electronics announced the two wearables on July 22 alongside its latest Galaxy devices, positioning the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 as its high-performance smartwatch for outdoor and endurance activities, while the Galaxy Watch9 is designed as an everyday health and wellness companion.
The new watches use Samsung's BioActive Sensor to collect biometric information and turn health and activity data into personalised insights. Both models also introduce features covering sleep, cardiovascular wellness, exercise, recovery and hearing health.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 Targets Outdoor and Endurance Users
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is the more rugged of the two new wearables, with Samsung targeting runners, divers and users involved in demanding outdoor activities.
The 47mm smartwatch introduces a Trail Run feature that can track elevation, climbing progress and terrain impact. Samsung has also added Nutrition Alert, which works alongside its Sweat Loss feature to provide hydration guidance during supported activities.
Diving is another major addition. The Watch Ultra2 carries IP69K and 10ATM ratings and EN13319 certification. Samsung says the watch can automatically track information including depth, dive duration and water temperature when the user enters the water.
Additional diving functions developed with diving equipment company Mares are expected later in 2026.

800mAh Battery and 5,000-Nit Display
Hardware is one of the biggest upgrades to the Galaxy Watch Ultra2.
Samsung has equipped the smartwatch with an 800mAh battery, which the company says represents a 35% increase in capacity compared with the previous Galaxy Watch Ultra.
The Ultra2 also features a Super AMOLED display capable of reaching up to 5,000 nits of localized peak brightness under specified conditions, according to Samsung.
The watch is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. Samsung says internal redesigns have also reduced the device's thickness by 12% compared with the previous Ultra generation despite the larger battery.
Its titanium casing is retained for durability.
Galaxy Watch9 Focuses on Everyday Health
The Galaxy Watch9 takes a less extreme approach, focusing on continuous health, activity and sleep monitoring.
It will be offered in 40mm and 44mm sizes and uses an aluminium casing with Samsung's cushion-style design.
The 40mm model weighs 31.5 grams, while the 44mm version weighs 34 grams.
Samsung has equipped the Watch9 with a Super AMOLED display offering up to 3,000 nits of brightness. Battery capacity is 390mAh on the 40mm model and 445mAh on the 44mm version.
Like the Ultra2, the Galaxy Watch9 uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite platform.

AI-Powered Health Becomes a Major Focus
Samsung is increasingly positioning its smartwatches as platforms for personalised health information rather than simply fitness trackers.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Watch9 use data captured through Samsung's BioActive Sensor to generate health and wellness insights.
Among the features Samsung highlighted are Vitals, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index and Hearing monitoring.
Vitals monitors a user's established health baseline during sleep and can flag significant deviations, while Heart Health Score is designed to present cardiovascular wellness information through a simplified score and personalised lifestyle recommendations.
Daily Cardio Load focuses on exercise volume and estimated recovery requirements, while Fitness Index provides a broader view of physical fitness and personalised goals.
Samsung also highlighted its Sleep Apnea feature, although availability and regulatory clearance vary by country and device. The company explicitly states that several health functions are not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions.

Wear OS 7 and One UI 9 Watch
Both watches run Wear OS 7 powered by Samsung with One UI 9 Watch.
They support LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, dual-frequency GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 includes 2GB of memory and 64GB of storage, while the Galaxy Watch9 comes with 2GB of memory and 32GB of storage.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Watch9 Availability
Samsung says pre-orders for the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 begin in select markets on July 22, with general availability scheduled for August 7, 2026.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 comes in a 47mm version with Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray colour options.
Galaxy Watch9 will be available in 40mm and 44mm variants. The 40mm version comes in Graphite and Cream, while the 44mm model is offered in Graphite and Silver. Availability may differ by market.
The launch shows Samsung putting greater emphasis on continuous health monitoring across its wearable ecosystem. The Ultra2 pushes further into specialist outdoor activities, while the Watch9 is designed around everyday wellness and long-term health tracking.
