OTT releases this weekend
Bandar: Bobby Deol Leads Anurag Kashyap's Crime Drama
Where to watch: ZEE5
Streaming from: August 28, 2026
One of the biggest Hindi additions to this weekend's streaming lineup is Bandar, directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Bobby Deol.
The film centres on Samar Mehra, a fading television star whose life begins to collapse after a former partner accuses him of rape. The allegation pulls him into a legal and public battle in which reputation, media attention and questions of justice collide.
The cast also includes Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, Sapna Pabbi, Indrajith Sukumaran and Jitendra Joshi.
For viewers looking for a darker Hindi drama rather than a conventional weekend entertainer, Bandar is one of the major releases to watch.
Babita Singh Reporting: A Murder Mystery Turns Personal
Where to watch: Prime Video
Streaming from: August 28, 2026
Nimisha Sajayan leads Babita Singh Reporting, an investigative drama built around police officer Babita “Baby” Singh.
After being suspended from duty, Babita returns home for a family event. Her visit takes a dramatic turn when her childhood friend Bansi is murdered.
Instead of remaining on the sidelines, she begins investigating the killing herself. What starts as an attempt to find the murderer gradually forces Babita to confront family tensions, relationships and parts of her own life.
Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar appear in important roles, while Ambiecka Pandit directs the film.
The Whisper Man — Robert De Niro and Adam Scott Enter a Dark Mystery
Where to watch: Netflix
Streaming from: August 28, 2026
For Hollywood thriller fans, The Whisper Man brings together Adam Scott, Robert De Niro and Michelle Monaghan.
The story follows widowed crime writer Tom Kennedy after his young son disappears. Desperate for answers, he turns to his estranged father, a retired detective.
Their search begins to reveal disturbing links between the disappearance and an older serial-killer investigation.
The premise puts family trauma alongside a conventional crime mystery, making The Whisper Man one of this weekend's more prominent international thriller releases.
Chumbak: A Lighter Choice for the Weekend
Where to watch: Netflix
Streaming from: August 28, 2026
Not everything arriving this weekend is built around crime.
Chumbak shifts the mood to the everyday lives of five households living alongside one another in a traditional Mumbai row-house neighbourhood.
Parenting, marriage, ageing and domestic problems bring the residents together, gradually turning neighbours into something closer to an extended family.
For viewers wanting something warmer after the weekend's heavy concentration of thrillers, Chumbak provides an alternative.
Dark Matter Season 2: The Multiverse Mystery Continues
Where to watch: Apple TV
Streaming from: August 28, 2026
Science-fiction viewers also have a major returning series this weekend with Dark Matter Season 2.
Joel Edgerton returns in the series based on Blake Crouch's novel, with Jennifer Connelly and Alice Braga among the principal cast.
The series' multiverse premise revolves around alternative versions of lives and the consequences of choices. Season 2 expands that story with new mysteries surrounding Jason and the different realities created by the show's central concept.
Unlike a movie released in full, the new season is scheduled to continue with weekly episodes.
Part-Timers: Friendship, Ambition and a Startup Dream
Where to watch: JioHotstar
Streaming from: August 28, 2026
Part-Timers follows roommates Sindhu and Teju, two women with contrasting personalities who share the ambition of building their own business.
Their attempt to transform an idea into a startup becomes the centre of the story, alongside friendship and the challenges of everyday life.
It provides another lighter option in a weekend otherwise dominated by crime, suspense and mystery titles.
Anbe Diana: Romance Arrives on SonyLIV
Where to watch: SonyLIV
Streaming from: August 28, 2026
Anbe Diana brings romance into the weekend lineup.
Set in Chennai's Perambur neighbourhood, the story follows a shy Telugu athletics coach who develops feelings for his Anglo-Indian neighbour Diana D'Souza.
Their growing relationship encounters complications arising from family expectations and cultural differences.
Which OTT Release Should You Watch First?
The answer largely depends on what you want from your weekend watchlist.
Crime-drama viewers may want to start with Bandar, while Babita Singh Reporting offers an investigation driven by a female police protagonist. The Whisper Man is the obvious choice for viewers looking for an English-language psychological crime thriller.
For something lighter, Chumbak and Part-Timers move away from the darker themes, while science-fiction audiences have Dark Matter Season 2.
The variety makes the final weekend of August particularly busy for streaming audiences.
