Kia EV5 and Sportage Storm Join UK Line-Up

The new Storm grade is available on Kia's all-electric EV5 and the Sportage SUV, combining design elements from different existing trim levels with additional comfort, technology and convenience features.

According to Kia UK, order books opened on July 1, 2026, with customer deliveries expected later in the year.

Both models receive unique Storm specifications while retaining their respective existing powertrain options.

The EV5 Storm uses the same 81.4kWh battery and front-wheel-drive powertrain offered elsewhere in the EV5 range. Kia's UK website currently lists the model with 214bhp.

The Sportage Storm is available with either a 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol engine or a hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 1.49kWh lithium-ion polymer battery.

The petrol version produces 147bhp and 250Nm of torque, while the hybrid delivers 235bhp and 380Nm, according to Kia.

What Does the Kia EV5 Storm Offer?

The Kia EV5 Storm combines selected styling elements from the Air and GT-Line versions.

Exterior equipment includes new 19-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, automatic flush door handles and LED lighting. Kia is offering Gravity Grey, Fusion Black and the Storm-exclusive Dark Ocean Blue exterior colours without an additional paint charge.

Inside, the EV5 Storm features black artificial leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats and heated outer rear seats.

The cabin uses Kia's three-screen dashboard arrangement, consisting of a 12.3-inch navigation touchscreen, 5.3-inch climate-control display and 12.3-inch driver display.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system are also included.

The model also offers connected features including Kia Connect services, over-the-air updates, Kia CarPay, Plug&Charge and an AI Assistant, although Kia notes that some connectivity services may require additional payment or subscriptions.

The EV5 Storm is priced from £43,145 on the road in the UK.

Kia Sportage Storm Gets Petrol and Hybrid Options

The Sportage Storm receives its own 18-inch alloy wheels along with gloss-black exterior detailing, privacy glass, silver roof rails and premium paint as standard.

Three exterior colours are available: Wolf Grey, Phantom Black and Dark Penta Metal.

Inside, the model features Storm-specific black leather and suede upholstery. Equipment includes heated and ventilated front seats, heated outer rear seats, electrically adjustable front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Technology includes a 12.3-inch navigation touchscreen and 12.3-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

The petrol Sportage Storm starts at £34,395 with a six-speed manual transmission. A seven-speed dual-clutch version costs £36,095.

The Sportage Storm hybrid is priced from £37,895.

Kia Adds All-Wheel Drive to EV5 Range

Alongside the Storm editions, Kia has expanded the EV5 range with new all-wheel-drive variants for the GT-Line and GT-Line S grades.

The AWD system adds an electric motor to power the rear axle while retaining what Kia describes as a predominantly front-biased configuration.

According to the company's announcement, the additional motor reduces the EV5's claimed 0-62mph acceleration time from 8.4 seconds to 7.4 seconds.

Maximum braked towing capacity also increases to 1,800kg.

The AWD models retain the 81.4kWh battery used by other EV5 variants. Kia says a 10% to 80% charge can be completed in about 30 minutes when using a suitable charger under appropriate conditions.

Kia has not yet confirmed official driving range and efficiency figures for the new AWD versions.

The new Storm editions give Kia customers another specification choice between the GT-Line and higher GT-Line S grades in the UK.

The introduction of AWD to the EV5 is also significant for buyers looking for additional traction and towing capability from Kia's electric family SUV.

The EV5 now joins the EV6 and EV9 among Kia electric vehicles available with an all-wheel-drive configuration in the UK.
