Three people have been arrested in connection with the assault on doctors and hospital staff at a KDMC-run hospital in Dombivli, Maharashtra. However, no action has yet been taken against Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, who was seen in CCTV footage allegedly attacking medical personnel, prompting protests and a strike by healthcare workers.

KDMC Hospital Assault

Violence broke out at the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC)-run Shastrinagar Hospital after a dispute over the availability of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) bed for a newborn.

According to hospital officials and police, relatives of a pregnant woman and Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre entered the hospital and allegedly assaulted doctors, nurses and other staff members. CCTV footage of the incident has circulated widely, showing medical personnel being slapped and pushed while on duty.

Latest Developments

Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the assault. However, no arrest or direct police action had been taken against corporator Ramesh Mhatre at the time of publication, despite an FIR being registered against him.

The incident triggered a protest by doctors, nurses and paramedical staff across KDMC hospitals. Routine outpatient (OPD) services were suspended, while emergency medical services continued.

Official Statements

KDMC Commissioner Abhinay Goyal confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Ramesh Mhatre for allegedly assaulting doctors and medical staff on duty.

According to the Maharashtra government, action will be taken based on the police investigation. Meanwhile, Mhatre has denied assaulting the woman doctor, claiming he only struck her mobile phone during the altercation. He has not issued an apology.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of healthcare workers in India. Medical associations have condemned the assault and demanded strict legal action against those responsible.

The attack also disrupted public healthcare services in Kalyan-Dombivli, with doctors warning that violence against healthcare professionals could affect patient care if stronger security measures are not introduced.

Police are continuing their investigation into the assault and are expected to examine CCTV footage and witness statements. The Maharashtra government has indicated that further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.

Medical associations continue to seek stronger legal protection for healthcare workers and action against all those named in the FIR.
